     Welcome to Physical Education at St. Joseph Parish School.  Grades Pre-K-8.

      New Jersey Standards for Physical Education:

             -A. Standard 1: Movement- Students will achieve optimal wellness by learning and applying movement
                concepts and skills. (e.g. loco-motor and non-locomotor skills)

             -B. Standard 2: Fitness- Students will understand the importance of physical fitness and daily physical
               activity.

      Course Objective:

             a. Demonstrate a variety of the basic loco-motor skills of walking, running, hopping, jumping,
                 galloping, sliding, and skipping.

             b. Demonstrate a variety of basic non-locomotor movements such as bending, pushing, pulling,
                stretching, turning, twisting, swinging, swaying, rocking, balancing, and rolling.

             c. Identify the physiological signs of moderate physical activity.  Such as, heavy breathing, increased
                heart rate, and sweating.

             d. Understand the relationship between physical activity and heart health.

             e. Use safe practices, rules, and procedures.

             f. To motivate and inspire students' capabilities in physical activity.  To be the best they can be.

             g. To emphasize good sportsmanship and fair play.

             h. To be able to work and communicate with others in a team setting and enhance social development.

             i. Through cognitive content and learning experiences, students should increase levels in coordination,
                basic movement skills, and physical fitness.

             f. To improve listening skills

             g. To understand the differences between competition vs. cooperation.

      Athlete of the Week:

            - Every 3 weeks, an exceptional student will be rewarded based on good sportsmanship
              (e.g. encouraging others); and also displays great athleticism.

      Grading System:

            - Every students starts with a 100 average. 

            -PARTICIPATION: Being involved in games or activities is a requirement and counts for a major grade.

            -TESTS/EXAMS: There will be 3 physical fitness tests.  A push-up, sit-up, and jump rope test.  A
               grading scale will be determined for each test.
